Media about phenotype heritability (parent-offspring similarities)

[edit]

I could not find any media specifically about similarities of biological appearance between offspring and their ancestors like their parents.

So far, there only is Category:Parents with offspring and Category:Genetic studies on human face in Category:Similarity but nothing specifically about parent-offspring similarities. Also could not find any media in the relevant Wikipedia articles/sections. Prototyperspective (talk) 17:40, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

A photo of Italian pastina soup is needed to illustrate an article on pl.wp. Would somebody be in state to make a nice photo? I will appreciate that. Hortensja Bukietowa (talk) 11:47, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Chick culling video (chick shredder for eggs)

I'd like to see a video of male chicks going into the shredder for people's eggs. There's only images in Category:Unwanted chick killing and on farmtransparency.org and no CCBY video on YouTube that I could find. It's important eg because in-egg-sexing is now possible. Topic: Brookfield Place (Toronto) public plaza

Comments:

Kind of a shot in the dark, but hoping for some help finding pictures of a public plaza in Toronto. It's outside the TD Canada Trust Tower, adjacent to the Allen Lambert Galleria (coordinates on Google Maps). We have loads of photos of the tower and the galleria, along with other buildings in the Brookfield complex, but I can't find anything here or on Flickr/other regular sources of the outdoor plaza. It was designed by artist Scott Burton, would be useful for his article. Thanks if anyone has a lead on images/ideas for where to look! 19h00s (talk) 04:04, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

@19h00s If you’re unable to find a photo, I can always take one for you. Maybe a week from now, if no one else does? PascalHD (talk) 21:08, 9 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
@PascalHD That would be awesome if you have the time! I'll keep looking in the meantime - thank you so much for the offer. Even just one photo of the overall plaza would be awesome, but I'd love to get some close-ups of the benches, light posts, and fountain in the center as well (presumably it's empty given the time of year, though). Feel free to hit me up on my Talk page next week.
Have a great weekend, thanks again :) 19h00s (talk) 22:03, 9 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

There's a really nice Neo-Romanian building at 36 Strada Zefirului in Bucharest for which we unaccountably do not have a photo. I'm pretty sure it is not still in copyright. We have photos of some far less notable buildings in the immediate vicinty, along Strada Traian. - Jmabel ! talk 08:07, 20 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sugar made from beets

[edit]

I would like pictures of sugar made from beet. We have images of sugar beets and the Category:Sugar beets but I didn't find images of the end product. It can be a pile of white powder sugar, or a package of sugar made from beets. Thanks. Mateussf (talk) 16:49, 23 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Mateussf I gave it a try, see Category:Beet sugar. I'm an amateur photographer, though, and don't know how to assess image quality, so I took a bunch of photos with my Google Pixel 8 Pro (photos 01-09) and Canon EOS 250D (photos 10-24) and uploaded them all. Feel free to nominate any duplicate-y and low-quality/useless images for deletion (ping me in the DR or link to this statement of mine, which I made on the day of upload, to speedy delete the excess files). If you have any tips regarding camera settings of the Canon EOS 250D to take better photos of the sugar, let me know and I'll give it another go. (Though, note that I don't have any camera/photo equipment beyond the camera (and the kit lense) itself, so, I can't reduce shaking by using a tripod or anything like that.) Nakonana (talk) 09:40, 1 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and I have all images in RAW: the Pixel phone saves them in .dng format and the Canon in .CR3. It doesn't seem to be possible to upload any of those formats to Commons, though. But if you (or someone else) wants to play around with them to maybe get a better result out of them, feel free to email me and I can send you the raws. Map of Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada

[edit]

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could please make a derivative map of just the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada using these two maps?

Map in English: here

Map in Serbian: here

It would be very much appreciated.

All the best,
PidgeCopetti (talk) 17:05, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Basically that's would be just a map of Canada, no? Or to put it differently, how would a map of Canada as a Serbian diocese differ from any other map of Canada? - Jmabel ! talk 05:09, 6 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi there, thank you for the question. I meant the map of Canada but cropped with the words КАНАДСКА or CANADA on it. – PidgeCopetti (talk) 13:30, 6 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Choropleth map that shows number of subscribers of subreddits & state of censorship

[edit]

A world map that visualizes

  • the number of subscribers as well as
  • the degree of censorship

of the country's/countries' main subreddit. Lots of subreddits like /r/de are heavily censored arbitrarily by moderators depending for example whether the mods politically disagree with opinions of the user per their comments or just about any other imaginable reason. So I think it would be useful to also see which subreddits heavily suppress reasonably-free speech.

A country usually has realistically just one main subreddit. It's a bit more complicated for countries that do have their own subreddit but speak a language that another subreddit is for – such as Austria with /r/austria and /r/de – maybe these could get some symbol to denote that. The censorship data may need to get collected first but that may not be super difficult and could maybe readily be done online if somebody built this. Countries without that data would only show the coloring representing the number of subscribers. Prototyperspective (talk) 18:14, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Prototyperspective: is there some objective scale or measurement of degree of censorship? Or some entity that claims to measure this? I can imagine all sorts of problems coming to such a measurement. - Jmabel ! talk 20:24, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes that would be a difficulty there. I suggest the people or person who build this, does create criteria for which level of censorship. So e.g. no significant reports of censorship = 0, too stringent rules = level 1, occasional arbitrary deletion & bans = level 2, systematic or frequent arbitrary deletions & bans due to deviating from the subjective opinion of the mods or some political doctrine = level 3. If there is no external study one can cite for this (and researchers could do this research after reading this file request) then level 1 would be sourced via an archived version of the subreddit with the subreddit rules and the other levels via lists of screenshot-proven examples of deletions & bans that yes somebody would need to aggregate and compile. --Prototyperspective (talk) 21:07, 13 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Related (this could be used for this): d:Wikidata:List of country and language-specific subreddits (one could also color countries by fraction of country population instead of absolute subscriber counts). Similar map "[Each country's subreddit and its number of members](https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/17rhnpx/each_countrys_subreddit_and_its_number_of_members/)" (not free-licensed, not also enabling the integration of censorship data, not considering the language subreddits which often are larger than the country-specific ones). --Prototyperspective (talk) 21:52, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Category:Civil War Monument, Binghamton, New York

[edit]

While we have a couple of photos (one of them mine) where the Civil War Monument (a.k.a. Soldiers and Sailors Monument) in Courthouse Square, Binghamton, New York is visible, we don't have any photos where it is the primary subject and which show it well. In particular, the figure of Liberty or Victory atop the column can't be properly seen in either of the photos we have. Good photos of the other figures on the monument would be great to have, too. - Jmabel ! talk 06:31, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Comments:

The Cutters is a folk band based in the Pacific Northwest. Philip and Teresa Morgan formed the band in the 1990s.[1]

would be more awesome if you can get a video/audio interview of them. let them talk about their development from founding to now. one particular interest i have is their song "Blood Is On The Square".

even more awesome if they release some of their work, or samples.

This is a rare case of an adult theater still existing. Founded in 1916, converted into an adult theater in 1962, and still operating (though probably for not much longer), this is really a unique place. I would upload it myself, but I'm not sure the 400 bucks it would cost to take a bus to KC from my Western PA residence would be worth it in the end ~2026-11797-56 (talk) 15:24, 22 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
