Parameters for specifying correct option

[edit]

{{Edit request}}

It'd be helpful if there were parameters that allowed for specifying which of the three scenarios applies. It'd also be nice to have a parameter for changing the "was never published" to "is not known to have been published" for less certain cases (like the one I recently used it for). User:Sdkb I will mark it as  Not done. I agree that those it would be nice to have such templates, but don't think we want to modify this template. A better way would be to create 3 new templates, maybe: template:PD-US-unpublished-pma70, template:PD-US-unpublished-anon, etc. one for each scenario. As for certainty of the publishing, that is never certain, as it is hard to prove that something never happened. I would leave it as is. --Jarekt (talk) 21:41, 9 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Jarekt As for new templates, I'll leave that work to others. As for certainly, if we're never certain, I think it'd make sense to go with the more cautious language by default. Would you object to that? Sdkbtalk 15:41, 10 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
User:Sdkb I do not object to the permanent change to more cautious language here. I feel like sometimes we overuse cautious language and make some statements hard to understand, but here it is clear. The template is used on 11k pages, which is not a lot. For some changes of widely used templates I prefer to get feedback from more users by posting about it on Commons:Village pump or Commons:Village pump/Proposals, as I am sometimes annoyed by changes made with consensus of 2-3 people. --Jarekt (talk) 03:20, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
OK, trying out the new, more cautious language, and if anyone objects to it, they are free to BRD (or request BRD if they cannot edit directly) for further discussion. Cheers, Sdkbtalk 05:50, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
